Orme history

Over the years Orme has been a summer home to thousands of young people, beginning in 1929 when Charles Orme Sr. and his wife, Minna, purchased the Quarter Circle V Bar ranch located in central Arizona.

Life on an isolated cattle ranch could be pretty lonely for the their children, so the Orme family invited friends to send their children to the Quarter circle V Bar for a summer of ranch life, horseback riding, and an outdoor experience in the Southwest.

When the Orme children finished college they developed an organized camping program which utilized the uniqueness of ranch life and the natural and cultural attractions of the Southwest.

Today The Orme School and Summer Camp is a 501 (c) 3, not-for-profit organization serving students and campers from around the United States and the world.

Students and campers alike enjoy a core ranch life experience along with many modern camp offerings.

In addition to the wide variety of horse related activities, Orme Summer Camp offers field and gym sports, swimming, drama, arts and crafts, archery, riflery, outdoor pursuits, and a host of other activities. Because we are on the campus of The Orme School, a college-preparatory boarding school, we also offer an array of credit and non-credit academics for those campers who are interested.
